Since 1991, Fondation Olo has been supporting pregnant women in vulnerable situations so that every child has an equal chance to be born and grow up healthy. Thirty-five years later, hundreds of thousands of babies have been brought into this world thanks to the efforts of an entire community.

The Olo community’s 35-year journey.

Much has happened during these past 35 years. Our story is a succession of milestones and key figures that have forged our path at the side of families.

Many important individuals have played a role in growing our village, though not all are featured here. Thank you for the big and small ways you’ve helped bring our mission to life!

  • 1940 1940

    Agnes C. Higgins, a nutritionist at the Montreal Diet Dispensary, develops the Higgins Nutrition Intervention Program, promoting the benefits of an eggs-milk-orange juice combination and vitamin supplements.

  • 1983 1983

    Creation of the acronym “OLO” (for œufs-lait-orange in French), with the first program offered in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.

  • 1991 1991

    Fondation OLO is born, following a call to action by 47 CLSCs, with the support of the Fédération des CLSC du Québec.

  • 1994 1994
    • First Show OLO, a comedy series airing on Super Écran, hosted by spokespersons Anne Dorval and Marc-André Coallier.
    • Improved services for pregnant women in vulnerable situations, through the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP).
  • 1997 1997

    First province-wide ad campaign on milk cartons, in collaboration with Agropur.

  • 2005 2005

    First edition of Dîner OLO, the Foundation’s main fundraising event.

  • 2013 2013
    • Hélène Bourgeois Leclerc and Pierre-François Legendre appointed spokespersons (until 2019).
    • Launch of the ambitious “1,000 Days to Savour Life” project, which expands the organization’s mission to include the adoption of healthy eating habits.
  • 2016 2016

    UQAM researchers Catherine Haeck and Pierre Lefebvre publish the study “A Simple Recipe: Estimating the Effect of a Prenatal Nutrition Program on Child Health at Birth” in Labour Economics, confirming the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of OLO Care.

  • 2018
    • The Government of Quebec awards $4.25 million in funding to strengthen the OLO Care initiative, our work with community organizations, and our partnerships with Indigenous communities.
    • First donation drive at Les Marchés Tradition and Bonichoix checkouts to benefit Fondation OLO.
  • 2019 2019
    • The “egg-milk-orange” trio evolves to include coupons for frozen vegetables.
    • Les Cercles de Fermières du Québec surpasses the $1 million mark in donations to Fondation Olo.
    • Launch of the trousse Découverte, a discovery kit for community organizations.
  • 2020 2020

    $750,000 raised as part of an emergency initiative to provide healthy food to pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • 2022 2022
    • Release of the Olo Care framework of reference to support care providers in their work.
    • The Fédération des producteurs d’œufs du Québec surpasses the $1 million mark in donations to Fondation Olo.
  • 2024
    • Launch of our postnatal offer with the introduction of new foods (tofu, baby cereal and meat purees for babies, sliced bread), with Pommes Qualité Québec apples to follow in 2025.
    • Launch of the Let’s cook with Olo program to assist community organizations in hosting educational cooking workshops.
  • 2025 2025
    • Signing of the 10th partnership agreement with Indigenous communities.
    • Launch of the cookbook Family Mealtimes — simple recipes approved by little helpers and their parents!
